The bit nobody warns you about

It starts small. A bit of a leak when you sneeze. Then you stop wearing the light trousers. Then you check where the toilets are before you go anywhere new. Then you skip the trampoline with the kids.

Nothing about it is dramatic. That is why it wins. It shrinks your life one small choice at a time, and you barely notice it happening.

You are nowhere near alone in this.

A study of more than 3,000 women going through the menopause found 57% of them had some degree of leaking. One in four was using protection or changing underwear several days a week.

And here is the part that should make you angry. Across nearly 20,000 women in another study, only a quarter had ever mentioned it to a doctor. A 2025 survey found that fewer than 15% of women with symptoms had been assessed or treated for them.

So most women carry this. Most women say nothing. And the ones who do get told to do their pelvic floor exercises.

Then you try. You do them for four days. You forget on day five. You remember in the car two weeks later. And you feel like the problem is you.

It isn't you. It's the ask.

Pelvic floor exercises work. Doctors recommend them first for good reason. But they ask you to do a thing you cannot see, cannot feel much of, and cannot check you are doing right. Several times a day. For months.

Even the most disciplined person is not going to do that every day for months on end. Researchers say the same thing. One paper puts it plainly: the training is tedious and monotonous, it is hard to be sure you are doing it right, and patients find it hard to stick with.

Every course starts with a proper assessment. If it isn't right for you, we say so.
What actually happens

You sit down. We do the reps.

You sit down in the treatment recliner. A pad resting on the seat makes a strong magnetic field. That field reaches the pelvic floor muscles and makes them contract, over and over, deeper than you can squeeze on your own.

You feel a strong tapping and a pulling. Most people find it strange for the first two minutes and forget about it after that. Bring your phone.

Forty minutes later you stand up and go back to your day. No recovery. No soreness. No time off.

Think of it like a gym session for a muscle you cannot reach.

The actual unit at our Whitworth Street clinic. The pad on the seat does the work. Nothing about the session asks anything of you.
How it works

Six appointments. Not six months of remembering.

Get assessed

Twenty minutes with a clinician, free. We check this suits you, and we tell you honestly if it doesn't.

Six sessions, forty minutes each

Sitting down with your phone in your hand. Around three to four weeks from first session to last.

Get on with your day

No recovery, no soreness, no time off. You stand up and walk back out into Manchester.

Where this is actually going

Your future self will thank you.

Two women in their forties sitting outside a cafe, one laughing freely

Six weeks from now, on an ordinary Tuesday.

  • You go to the exercise class you stopped going to, and you do the jumping bit.
  • You laugh at something, all the way, without that half second where you brace.
  • You pack for a weekend away and you don't pack extra underwear.
  • You buy the trousers you like.
  • You go somewhere new and you don't scan for the toilets on the way in.
The evidence

What the research says

We will keep this short, and we will tell you where every number comes from.

Three out of four responded, compared to one in five on a dummy device

120 women were given either real magnetic stimulation or a dummy machine that looked and sounded identical. After two months, 75% of the real group had responded compared with 21.7% of the dummy group.

Lim et al., 2017, The Journal of Urology. Randomised, double-blind, sham controlled, n=120

Symptom scores dropped by about three quarters

Across five studies of chair-based magnetic stimulation, incontinence severity fell by 9.85 points on the ICIQ-UI SF, the standard questionnaire for this, which is a 74.4% reduction at 12 weeks. It held at roughly 71 to 72% out at nine to twelve months.

Sacarin et al., 2025, Journal of Clinical Medicine. Systematic review, five studies, n≈219

Less leaking than a placebo

Pooling four randomised trials, women given magnetic stimulation lost 5g less urine per 24 hours on a weighted pad test than those given a placebo treatment, and had significantly fewer leaks. Two larger 2025 reviews, covering 24 studies and 17 trials, reached the same conclusion on symptoms and quality of life.

Peng et al., 2019, Medicine, four RCTs, n=232 · Yang et al., 2025 · Li et al., 2025

The one people rarely ask about

A 2024 randomised study of 50 postmenopausal women compared pelvic floor exercises alone against the same exercises plus this treatment. The treatment group scored higher on the Female Sexual Function Index at eight weeks. This is a questionnaire that looks at many aspects of sexual well-being. Plenty of women care about this part and never bring it up.

Elgayar, 2024, Obstetrics & Gynecology Science, n=50 · Sacarin et al., 2025

So here is our honest pitch. This is not magic. It is the same first-line treatment your GP would point you toward. The difference is that it is delivered in a way you will actually finish.

Six appointments in your diary instead of six months of trying to remember.

Ten places a month

We take ten new pelvic floor clients a month. This is so we can give each client the attention they deserve, and so the clinic never feels overcrowded or like you are being hurried.

When the ten are gone, they're gone until the following month.

If you don't feel a difference, the seventh is on us

Do all six sessions and if you don't feel a difference, tell us. We'll book you a seventh and we won't charge for it.

No form to fill in and no case to argue. You know whether something has changed, and we'd rather give you another session than have you walk out thinking £499 went nowhere.

This is a medical clinic. Not a spa with a machine in the corner.

Every treatment here is overseen by Dr Callum Shields. He spent seven years in the NHS in ear, nose and throat surgery before moving into longevity medicine, and opened Thriyv in Manchester in November 2025.

You won't only see him. A team of trained practitioners delivers the sessions and looks after you across the whole course, so there is always someone who knows where you are up to.

As such, we are able to accommodate preferences for both male and female practitioners.

CQC registered. We are inspected and regulated like any other healthcare provider. Provider ID 1-26750488175.

You will get a proper assessment before your first session. If we do not think this is right for you, we will tell you, and you will not be charged.

Be honest with yourself here

This is for you if…

  • You leak when you laugh, cough, sneeze, run or lift
  • You are heading into or through the menopause and things feel weaker
  • You had children and never got back to where you were
  • You have tried pelvic floor exercises and did not stick with them
  • You want six appointments in the diary instead of a daily task you will drop

It's not for you if…

  • You want one session and a fix. This is a course. Six visits, or it is not worth starting.
  • Your symptoms are new, painful, or come with blood. See your GP first. That needs looking at properly, and this is not the place to start.

We would rather turn you away than take £499 and disappoint you.

Questions people actually ask

Does it hurt?
No. You feel a strong tapping and a pulling sensation. It is odd at first. It is not painful. Tell your clinician and we turn the intensity down.
Do I have to undress?
No. You stay in your own clothes the whole time. Avoid heavy zips and belts.
Is there anything inserted?
No. Nothing goes anywhere near you. It works through a magnetic field, so it reaches the muscle through your clothes.
How soon will I notice anything?
Everyone is different, and we will not promise you a date. Most people are through the full course in three to four weeks. Your clinician will go through what to expect at your assessment.
What if it does not work for me?
Then it does not work for you, and we will not pretend otherwise. That is why we assess you first and turn people away when it is not the right fit.
Is this the same as the chairs I have seen advertised?
It works on the same principle, electromagnetic stimulation of the pelvic floor, but the hardware is not the same. Ours is a pad that sits on a treatment chair rather than a one-piece moulded chair, and our sessions run 40 minutes rather than the 28 or 30 most clinics offer.
Can I keep doing my pelvic floor exercises?
Yes. Please do. They are the first-line treatment and they work. Research suggests they work best with proper instruction and supervision, which is part of what you get here. This is not a reason to stop.
Is there any reason I could not have it?
There are a few. Tell us at your assessment if you are pregnant, have a pacemaker or any implanted metal or electronic device, or have a coil fitted. Some of these rule it out. We check all of this before you book a session.
How does the seventh session guarantee work?
Complete all six sessions, and if you don't feel a difference, say so at your last appointment or afterwards. We book you a seventh and don't charge for it. There's no assessment to pass and nothing to prove. It's a free session rather than a refund.
What happens when the ten places are taken?
We put you on the list for the following month and tell you the date. We won't overbook to fit you in, because the thing that makes the course work is that you get your six sessions close together.
Can men have it?
Yes. Speak to us first so we can check it suits your situation.
Where are you?
14–16 Whitworth Street, Manchester M1 3BS, in the city centre. Full directions and parking details are on the booking page.
